Post Banshee Hill to be closed!
Just got this email from Greg Hoover who is representing OHV groups on the committee to designate OHV trails in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA)

To all

Below are the notes from our Nov 7th meeting.

One thing I learned that is of great concern is the fact that as of Jan. 1st 2010 ALL trails that are in the forested and some of the grassy areas of the ODNRA WILL BE CLOSED!!!!!

This includes Banshee Hill.

Now before we get to excited I have been assured that the closures will not be enforced until the workgroup finishes and make their recommendations to the district ranger.

But there are members of the workgroup that want all trails closed and fences put up around the water features including the ones south of the 3rd parking lot.

Take a minute to read these meeting notes and note the phrases such as "possible wetlands","unique plant associations" and "Dunal Springs.

I hope to see more of you at the next meeting,

Friday, January 22: Field Tour of north riding area (south of Florence)
12:30 - 4:30
Starting location to be determined
Saturday, January 23: Working Group Meeting
8:30 - 3:30
Honeyman State Park - Group Meeting Yurt

Feel free to post this where it might matter.

Thank you for your time
Greg Hoover

Heard about that this past weekend. Sadly Oregon waited to long to organize a defense, before it was to late.

This is why we (FoOD) is proactive and so involved!!!!!

Words cannot describe how much I think this blows!!! Man does this pisses me off.....Oregon, specifically the trails at Oregon, are my favorite type of riding. This bums me way out.

Its kind of strange that this topic has not had any exposure on any other forum I've seen. The American Sand Association, which claims to represent all duners ,hasnt made a peep! They really need to change the name to the Glamis Sand Association.

Sad. ;98

Yeah, I was just looking around the net for more coverage on this. Its sad that this isn't getting the proper coverage. Thanks for getting the word out there Kevlar, I would have been unpleasantly surprised had I went up there next time and couldn't ride my favorite hill...

EXACTLY KEVIN!!!! That has been Jim's point for years...that people donate to ASA thinking that they help "ALL". But that is not the case. Glamis is their focus!!

This bites! We have rezzies at Horsfall for June, looks like we may reconsider St Anthony's.

We have gone to Horsfall for the last 4 years, superb riding but staying out of the forest and grassy trails ruins the apeal.

Welcome to DC Scott. ;35 I agree the forested trails make Oregon Unique. We are considering SA's as well. ;33

John (dodgerblu) will keep be headed to a few of these meetings and keep us posted. The Coos Bay area dunes are some of the more technically diverse dunes I have ever ridden and it will suck if they close the good stuff.

Since the "committee" to study the most effective way to enforce and restrict access to the tree lines and grassy areas are not due to report their findings until June 1st, we've decided to stay with our plans to spend a week at Horsfall in June. I doubt very seriously they will be able to put any plan into action the first week of June when we are going.

I can guarantee you that I will ride every grass lined path, every route through the trees and ride down every single rabbit hole I can find that week taking as any pics as I can or the memories.

If it’s open, I’ll ride it! ;33
